Newsletter January 2024

Welcome back to playgroup and welcome to all of our new children and their families. We hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year.

Our Christmas parties and Nativity were a great success and all of the children done so well for which we are very proud of them. Thank you for your support and it was lovely to see so many faces at the nativity. We raised £50 on our collection and this will go towards playgroup resources and equipment.

As we settle back into playgroup after such a busy half term before Christmas we wanted to let the children lead on our activities and planning for a couple of weeks, to give them a chance to talk about their Christmas holidays, families and presents. So far we have heard and seen some lovely stories on Tapestry and from the children. Please do remember to post your own observations onto Tapestry, we love to read them and talk to the children about their home life.

Snack

We really do need snack items brought in every week. If every family could bring in one item, a bunch of bananas, breadsticks, apples, grapes, a cucumber, crumpets, tomatoes, a loaf of bread etc. This all goes in the pot and everyone shares. Feeding 30 children snack everyday takes quite a lot of healthy food! If you can help please do.

Lunches

Please remember not to overfill your child’s lunchbox. Some children become very anxious with the amount of food they have been given. A simple sandwich/crackers, fruit/veg, yoghurt and crisps is plenty. Please remember to name your child’s lunch box and drinks bottle. We have a NO NUT policy at playgroup so please do not include nuts or nut containing products. We also have a no Sweeties policy this includes small packets of Haribos!

Uniform

We now have a small amount of uniform in stock. Please speak to a member of staff if you would like to place an order.

Funding Forms

For those children who receive government funding, your claim form will shortly be sent home this will need to be signed and returned to playgroup asap.

Family Tree

Our family tree is looking a little bare. Please can you send in a photograph of your family. This is a great talking point with the children.

Allergies/Health and Medical Needs

Please remember if your child’s health/medical needs change to inform a member of staff.

Warm waterproof clothing/spare clothing

Please remember to send your child in with warm, waterproof clothing as we spend a lot of time in the garden. Wellies are a must and a puddle suit is optional.

Please also remember to send in spare clothes as there can be toilet accidents and lots of muddy puddles!

Tombola Prizes

Please remember us when you have unwanted Christmas/birthday presents ! We are always looking for donations towards our next fundraiser which should be around Easter (more info to follow)

New Funding for 2 year Olds

As we’re sure you’ve heard by now, the UK government has recently announced that, starting April 2024, a new scheme of childcare funding will be introduced, extending the current universal 15 hours of funded childcare for 3-year-olds to families with 2-year-olds. We are delighted to share Sprowston Nursery Playgroup will be offering this new funding,

But what else do you need to know?

You can usually get 15 hours of funded childcare if both the following apply:

  • your child is 2 years old or will turn 2 years old before 1 April 2024
  • you earn at least £8,670 a year and less than £100,000 a year adjusted net income, which is your income after some tax reliefs and deductions

If you’re a couple, you’ll both need to earn between these amounts.

If you already get 15 funded hours of childcare from the government you can’t get these hours as well.

You can get the 15 hours of funded childcare at the same time as using Tax-Free Childcare or Universal Credit for childcare.

You’ll need to reconfirm your eligibility every 3 months. To do this you’ll be asked to set up a Government Gateway Account if you don’t have one already.

Apply for 15 hours of funded childcare for your 2 year old on the government website: Childcare Choices. We highly recommend applying now!

Families Week

We will be holding a families week starting Tuesday 6th February

An appointment list will go up on the door for you to book a slot and come in and spend some time with your child and speak with their keyperson. We recommend not bringing younger siblings as this will give you more of an opportunity to spend time with your little one at playgroup.
