About Sprowston Nursery Playgroup

Sprowston Nursery Playgroup is a preschool setting with over 40 years history, a highly-regarded reputation, and a “Good” OFSTED rating, with Outstanding Outcomes for Children. Our aim is to give children from 2 years to school age the opportunity to learn social skills by mixing with children of their own age, and for them to have fun and learn through play.

The Setting

We are fortunate to have a large premises with multiple and varied activity areas, both indoors and out. Children are able to move freely and independently between these environments choosing their own activities.

Our busy room has an inviting atmosphere encouraging children to explore the diverse resources available. It is the location of the “snack area”, and where our afternoon children eat their packed lunch. There is also a soft relaxation area.

The Hall is a large and very flexible space. We can set up several activities here, as well as using our larger equipment, such as climbing frames so the children can still get their physical activity on the rare occasions they are unable to use the garden.
As well as the lawn, our garden has an all weather surface with a newly built pergola allowing the children to play outside in all weathers. In the garden you will see many activities that you would expect to see indoors, for example painting and reading, as well as the usual outdoor activities such as ride-on toys, sand

We use the kitchen for the messier activities such as painting, baking, and creating masterpieces for you!

The Staff

Our team of 12 staff are trained in Under-5’s care and First Aid. In addition to our dedicated staff we have a number of Volunteer helpers. This means that our adult:child ratio always maintains the statutory requirement, giving each child a high standard of care and attention. As a charity, we are a Committee-run Playgroup, made up of parents who are elected each year at our AGM.

Government Nursery Funding

We are part of the Government Funding scheme. This means that from the term after your childs 3rd birthday they will be entitled to 15 hours per week of government funding. We also accept 2 year old funding , the 30 hour entitlement and childcare vouchers.
